No kidding; new favorite mobile game. I love this take on the RPG, and all the subtle innovations that lets it work so, so smoothly on mobile.
- The swipe-based world navigation is great.
- The combat system (straight from Paper Mario) feels great on a touchscreen.
- The story woven throughout level exploration by voiceover works very well.
- The character animations are great.
The not-as-good stuff is: the opening cinematic, which isn't the kind of animation quality we're used to from the show, but is nonetheless full motion video. I think if there wasn't time or budget to do it to show standards, a comic slideshow with snazzy art, or just no opening at all might have been a better choice.
The level art in the first world is often bland. But I very much like the maze-like structure and the method for moving around it. I'll wait to see if level art in future worlds gets cooler. I bet it will.
But anyway, those are small qualms. I'm really impressed by this game, and I know I will play it to the end, which is something I basically never do with mobile titles.
Highly recommended. It's out for iOS and Android now.
